Todd J. Query
Todd Query is currently Youth Minister at Williamsburg United Methodist Church in Virginia. Todd reviewed re:form Traditions and wrote leader guide sessions for re:form Ancestors. During his writing, one of the amazing thing he learned was that the Rahab story is an analog for the Passover story.
Theological training: Master of Divinity with a Christian Education Specialization in 2000 from Methodist Theological School in Ohio. (I’m also an Ordained Deacon, which qualifies me as “clergy” in the UMC.)
Family: happily married to his college sweetheart, and have two of the most awesome children ever born. (Todd adds: since I’m clergy and she’s a psychologist, we’re bound to screw them up somehow.)
Youth ministry superpower: the ability to speak “parent.”
Essentials for a youth lock-in…on a desert island: A jet-ski by which to facilitate my quick (and solo) escape.
3 words that describe you: Outgoing | Confident | Self-critical (yeah, I’m a bit of a contradiction)
3 words that describe Sparkhouse: Edgy | Creative | Irreverent (in a good way)
A favorite theologian quote: The truth of who we are is that we are because we belong. (Bishop Desmond Tutu)
A favorite pop culture figure quote: All you need is love. (John Lennon/Paul McCartney)
If your Sunday school teacher knew you’d be creating sparkhouse resources, what would she or he say? That all depends on who you ask. Some would say “Well, it’s about time.” Others would say, “Who?”
Your work on re:form is a success if a youth responded by: staying awake. No, wait…asking questions.
